Convened by artist Christian Nyampeta, with the support of and alongside a chorus of fellow artists, institutions, and networks, École du soir (The Evening School) is a multiform hosting structure for collective feeling, cooperative thinking, and mutual action for “thinking Africa” and the study of an urgent question that is planetary in scope: how do we live together?
École du soir in Shanghai occasions an invaluable moment of cultural exchange: to connect lifeworlds, to host meaningful encounters, and form communities of practice, through the planetary phenomenon of cinema, embodied translation, and intellectual promiscuity, that imagine new ways of sharing time and working together, and, in doing so, also living together. To make another knowledge possible.

This performance is a creative journey between Inchdance and artist Jay Peng and an embodied exploration based on the "Evening School" exhibition from ICA.
The work has started from March to May 2024. During this period, the team always interpreted and empathized with the African clues left in "EveningSchool." The exhibition becomes an incubator for creation itself. At the same time, it keeps expanding and discussing issues such as the old colonization and trauma that belonged to Shanghai, the migration in modern cities, and the conflicts between collectives and individuals.
