The five masters have all been working in the field of improvisational dance art for nearly 30 years. They have held teaching, performing, and creative work around the world. They not only promote the development of improvisational dance art in Asia, but also serve as guides in bringing oriental body art to the international stage. For this art festival, these five masters will all come to Shanghai together to teach and share.
Since the release of the super early bird information, several CI lovers registered for [Beyond Dance] Improv Festival right after they read the introductions of the 5 international masters.
The most common question we receive every day is, "Is the festival schedule out?"

MASTER WORKSHOP
INTRODUCTION

UNFOLD THE MIST
Basic
Class
Contact improvisation and improvisation are two seemingly similar but possibly very different topics. Contact improvisation is intended to be a dance behavior in which two people interact with each other by feeling the physical sensations transmitted by each other due to physical contact. This includes the cognition of one's own body, sensitivity to touch, and how to carry out the corresponding dance. The course will gradually guide students from the process of dancing as an individual to dancing with a partner from the fundamental to the deep .
The dance triggered by the premise of body development and free dance is not only about the projection of personal satisfaction but also more about sharing the present and experience . Therefore, this course will also use game-like exercises to guide improvisation methods. All relevant key points include physical sensation, space, time, structure, and other sub-items. It is expected that students will deepen their understanding of themselves, care for their surroundings in practice, and practice sharing during the course .
TOTAL DANCE
Advanced
Class
Contact improvisation applies a completely equal body to all body parts. Whether it is a specific weight, center of gravity, or a piece of skin lightly touching, they all represent the passing of information. The advancement of technique contains, at the same time, the seemingly invisible refinement of sensitivity and the variety of choices in an instant. How to continue to enter unknown areas depends on the encounter and integration of all the links and elements. Furthermore, when improvisation becomes a performance, how compatible are the identities of the dancer and the performer? All current choices are fleeting and ever-changing decisions.
The course of this advanced class will be arranged in two aspects: "Advanced Contact Improvisation Course" and "Performance Topic". 'Advanced CI Course' includes how to find the most unexpected gaps between movement and stillness to challenge, and how to stabilize the center of gravity in a small area. The purpose of the 'Performance Topic' is to improve the dancers' comprehensive consideration for the present situation and how to respond to the audience's gaze, etc.

ALL ABOUT 'US'
Basic
Class
Teacher Victor and Mandy will lead participants to start with understanding the body, and guide participants through a three-stage improvisational workshop to develop body language for communication, expression, creation and improvisation.
The first part starts from the ' Body' ——start from understanding the body and then conduct different explorations and body language exploration. The second part is centered in grateful ' Heart '. It is not easy for us to get to where we are today. This will be a dance about 'gratitude'. The third part begins with ' Spirit' , which will be a journey of freedom in spirituality, life and creation. The three stages of the workshop will be interrelated and extend to different creations!
PARTING · MEETING
Advanced
Class

In the workshop, teacher Victor and Mandy will guide participants to develop their bodies and different senses, and create through breathing, sound, body, text, visual images, dance, etc., leading participants go through life journeys of separation and reunion. APARTNESS LEADS
TO CONNECTION
Advanced
Class
Contact Improvisation (CI) is usually about initiating the movement by physical contact.
However, this time,
we’d like to explore what is left behind/ ahead of the contact while depicting CI through the filter of the Japanese spirits and aesthetics, 'zanshin 残心' and 'ma间'.
Zanshin残心 is literally translated as 'remaining mind'. It indicates
a state of awareness that allows seamless connection with surroundings by staying focused
. Consequently, the seamless connection embodies 'ma', which is translated as intervals, suggesting
the consciousness of time and space in between
.
Therefore, we’d like to develop an understanding of CI from a different perspective.
