# Gumin Shen'sDance to Save the Nation Theory #
While I was still immersed in happiness, I heard the sighs of public opinion about today's young people and concerns about society or the government. I simulated the gap I felt and heard, and the implications behind it. I came to a conclusion: to have a healthy, happy, and forward-moving society, let everyone dance!

Gumin Shen, I Was Once a Choreographer
The Dance to Save the Nation Theory is a bold and interesting idea.
Upon closer examination, it fits Gumin Shen's personality perfectly, carefree and light yet thoughtful.
Famous Taiwanese choreographer Yen-Fang Yu once described her mentor Gumin Shen with the words 'graceful and light.' It's spot on. Whether watching Gumin Shen's dance or listening to her speak, she always comes across as elegant and articulate. As an outside observer, the deeper I delve into her works and watch her dances, the more I am attracted to her inherent boldness and unruliness.

# Mother of Asian Contact Improvisation #
After graduating with a master's degree in dance from the University of Illinois, USA, Gumin Shen served as the head of the dance department, director of the graduate institute, and dean of the dance school at the National Taiwan University of Arts. She received the Zhongxing Art Award in 1997 and the Wu San Lien Art Award in 2009.
Among the many labels society has given her, she is best known as the 'Mother of Asian Contact Improvisation.'
In 1993, Gumin Shen founded the 'Gumin Shen Dance Company' (now called 'Gu Dance Company'). While engaging in modern dance creation and performance, she actively promoted improvisational dance performance and 'contact improvisation styles and concepts. Over the past 26 years, the company has traveled to many countries and cities around the world, including Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Europe, and has becomethe only professional performing group in Taiwan using this form of performance art..

# I am a creator of improvisation#
'I think I am still a choreographer,' Gumin Shen once said in an interview with Art and Humanities. 'When we do improvisation, we actually integrate the concept of choreography and theatrical awareness, which other dance companies do not have.'
The New York Times once commented on Gumin Shen's work: Simple and handsome!

Performance at the First Shanghai Improvisation Arts Festival
Many people don't know how to watch or understand improvisational performances. Actually, just think of it as watching a ball game. Whenever you go to a game, you know there are certain rules, but you don't know how the game will be played today, whether the team you like will win, or what kind of sparks you'll see.
That's what improvisational performances are like.

#Gu Ming Shen and Shanghai Improvisation Festival#
This year marks the third edition of the Shanghai Improvisation Festival, and Teacher Gu Ming Shen has personally participated in two consecutive editions.
The core of a society is each individual person. Learning to dance is also about learning self-awareness, knowing what you are doing, a path filled with discipline and mindfulness.
——《Perfect, Fleeting——Notes on the Pursuit of Dancer Gumin Shen》
What is the Shanghai Improvisation Festival? Many people ask this. I would answer them: This is a platform most focused on 'people'. It uses professional skills to absorb and assimilate everyone and everything. Here, you can use the most primitive methods and abilities to explore and develop the body's instincts, to establish a relationship with yourself, and to establish relationships with others. The Shanghai Improvisation Festival has shown me more possibilities for improvisation and dance, as well as the positive impact it can have on society,” said Gu Ming Shen.
As Teacher Gu Ming Shen said: Dancing unites a group of people because they are closely related and have to think of others in everything they do.
