被问了一个简单的问题：
“你为什么跳舞？”
他们的回答展示了
各人选择同一条非比寻常的
职业道路的不同人生故事。

《Why?》是一部记录式现场演出，将焦点集中在了 生活在上海的当代舞者们 这样一个群体。
整个作品的中心是一个看似简单的问题——“你为什么跳舞？”
这个问题并不在于表达对舞蹈的热爱，而是更多的讨论人们出于何种原因，而
选择了舞蹈这样一种能将不同的文化融合贯通的艺术形式
作为其职业。
表演从声音和视觉多角度去展现不同文化背景的六名舞者各自的生命轨迹。我们经常能在舞台上欣赏到舞者用肢体去表现各种故事，但我们鲜少了解他们自己的生活。
WHY拼命挤进一个并不需要你的行业当中？
WHY让你自己伤筋动骨？
WHY当你被说“太老”、“不够好”和“身体条件差”时，还要继续？

Why do you break your body for your art? Why do you sacrifice your relationships in pursuit of a career that doesn't want you? Why do youdance?In answer, choreographer Anneliese Charek and her international dancecompany, SLATE, present the performance ‘Why?,’ assembling an eclectic group ofprofessional performers from 6 different countries and exploring what drivesthem to dedicate their lives to their art, and what has it cost them in theprocess?Delicate and deeply personal choreography ties a brand new score tothe intimate recordings of these dancers’ interviews, giving a voice to thosewho usually appear on stage wordless.

Asking larger questions about what drives humans to pursue their passions, thistouching, inspiring performance invites the audience to think about their ownchoices. Strong performances and a strong message behind the project have allreceived great interest over the last three years, sparking conversationsaround China, from Shanghai’s art galleries and theatres, to isolated village sin rural Shandong. This year the company is very excited to perform again offthe back of a Spring tour of Italy. The performance will be accompanied by a post-show Q&A session.

本着为上海的独立舞蹈表演献力的目的,SLATE当代舞团于2013年成立,成员包含本土与国际艺术家。舞团多为行业领先的艺术组织演出,也致力于和国内艺术家以不同的媒介手段进行合作。原创作品曾于上海当代艺术博物馆,新时线媒体艺术中心,上海民生现代美术馆,上海二十一世纪民生美术馆,上海当代艺术馆,Basement6独立艺术空间,上海当代艺术博览会,A-piece美术馆,视觉 艺术中心和杭州第一届国际舞蹈节等地进行展演。舞团扎根于本土,不仅只以其成员作为原创剧目的表演者,还与本地舞者们进行紧密合作。SLATE为专业及非专业的舞者均有开设工作坊培训,并且作为组织方帮助舞者和编导们训练和展示其作品。
Anneliese Charek是一名艺术家,教育家以及艺术组织者。她投身于建筑基础教育,帮助培养上海海本 地的艺术家与艺术展演。生于洛洛杉矶,于加州艺大学毕业后,她加入了Li Chiao-Ping舞团担任舞 者,为期两年年。作为SLATE当代舞团的艺术总监,她希望创造一个供舞蹈艺术家们一起训练和创作的场所。她于2014年年开始了舞团的建设,也是2013年年成立的独立艺术空间Basement6的共同发起人。曾于美国,欧 洲,东南亚及中国工作学习的她现正攻读上海戏剧学院的硕士学位,同时重新开展独立实验表演项目平台——“生场INtheFLESH”。
